US Markets, January 25, 2013
As of January 25, U.S. markets continue to see the record levels. While the S&P 500 index rose by 0.54% reaching 1,502.96, Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed by 0.51%, reaching 13,895.98. The news that provided S&P 500 index to close above 1,500 since 2007 are:
- Higher-than-estimated corporate earnings from Procter&Gamble Co. and other quarterly results ;
- Ongoing positive effect of that the House of Representatives in the U.S. voted to temporarily extend the debt ceiling limit until May 19, 2013.
However, Apple Inc. shares continued to fall on Friday and as a result Apple Inc.’s market value fell to second behind Exxon Mobile Corp. Also, economic data related to the U.S. new home sales, which fell by 7.3% in December, put pressure on the market gains.
